The number of people killed in school shootings in Turkey has reached 9.
Arrest warrants were issued against 83 individuals for distributing materials promoting crime, and 93 Telegram groups were shut down.
Extensive investigation operations are being conducted regarding the school shootings that occurred in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş, Turkey. This was reported by the Anadolu Agency.
According to the Turkish Minister of Interior, the incident in Kahramanmaraş resulted in 9 fatalities, 8 of whom were students and one a teacher. Additionally, 13 people sustained injuries, with 6 in intensive care and the condition of 3 assessed as serious.
According to the official statement, detention orders have been issued for 83 individuals who disseminated materials promoting the crime and aimed at negatively affecting public order, and relevant legal measures have been taken against them. Furthermore, access to 940 social media accounts has been restricted, and 93 Telegram groups have been shut down.
It was announced that within the scope of the investigation into the armed attack in Kahramanmaraş, the father of the perpetrator, İsa Aras Mersinli, Uğur Mersinli, has been arrested. Preliminary examinations revealed that the suspect had used a picture on his WhatsApp profile referencing Elliot Rodger, who carried out an attack in the USA in 2014.
Regarding another school attack that occurred in the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa, the number of detainees has reached 18. During the investigation, individuals who left threatening comments and openly spread false information were also identified and apprehended.
Comprehensive investigation work is ongoing regarding the incident. The Ministry of Interior has assigned 4 administrative and 4 police chief inspectors. The Ministry of Justice has mobilized 3 deputy chief prosecutors and 4 prosecutors.
Furthermore, the Ministry of National Education has also initiated separate inspections.
