Control procedures at the state border in Russia have been strengthened. This is related to the entry into force of amendments to the federal law "On the State Border of the Russian Federation," reports the "Vesti" publication.

According to the new procedure, border service officers have been granted expanded powers regarding the inspection of individuals and vehicles. Now, the mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and other electronic devices of citizens entering and leaving the country may also be examined.

It is reported that if there is suspicion of a violation of the state border regime or the illegal transportation of prohibited items, border officers have the right to demand the presentation of devices and conduct a visual inspection of the information stored on them.

Failure to comply with legislative requirements may result in a fine ranging from 5,000 to 7,000 rubles or administrative detention for up to 15 days.

According to officials, these measures are aimed at combating terrorism and extremism, limiting smuggling and illegal migration, and strengthening state border security.
