The names of more than 200 water bodies in Uzbekistan will be Uzbekified.
Based on these changes, maps, state registries, as well as signboards and information indicators on objects will also be updated.

In Uzbekistan, the names of 216 rivers, streams, lakes, springs, and waterfalls have been brought into compliance with the rules of the state language. The Ministry of Water Resources reported this.
According to Resolution No. 377 of the Cabinet of Ministers dated July 9, 2026, the names of certain geographical features have been formalized in accordance with the spelling norms of the Uzbek language. For example, the name "Akkol" was changed to "Oqqo‘l", "Ribatskiy zaliv" to "Baliqchiko‘l", and "Tubakol" to "Tubako‘l".
Within two months, the Ministry of Water Resources, together with the Cadastre Agency, the Tourism Committee, and the "O‘zbekbaliqsanoat" association, will update the names in maps, state registers, and other databases.
Additionally, the Ministry, in cooperation with the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional administrations, the Tourism Committee, and the "O‘zbekbaliqsanoat" association, will ensure that signs and information indicators in the areas of rivers, streams, lakes, springs, and waterfalls are formalized in the Uzbek alphabet based on Latin script, in accordance with the rules and norms of the state language.
