Qatar has indicated that there is progress in the negotiations between the United States and Iran.

Qatar has announced that there has been some progress in diplomatic efforts aimed at stopping the war between the US and Iran. However, Tehran has rejected US President Donald Trump's statement that negotiations have begun between the parties, Reuters reported.

According to Majid al-Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the mediated talks have entered an important stage. Qatar, Pakistan, and Oman are working on facilitating an exchange of proposals and establishing negotiations between the US and Iran.

Nevertheless, Iran has denied that direct negotiations are being held with the US. Tehran stated that it is only in communication with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz issue and that no meetings with the US are planned in the coming days.

US President Donald Trump had previously said that negotiations with Iran had begun and that Tehran had a "last chance" to reach a deal. However, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the negotiations have not yet concluded, but positive progress is being observed regarding the restoration of ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Rubio, the parties have not yet reached a final agreement, but they are getting closer. Bessent, meanwhile, said that an agreement on reopening the strait could be signed on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Against the backdrop of these statements, oil prices fell on the global market. Brent crude oil prices dropped by more than 4 percent. Investors are hoping that shipping through the Strait of Hormuz will soon resume. However, security-related problems in the strait persist.

According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a dry cargo ship operating in the Strait of Hormuz area near the coast of Oman was struck by an unknown projectile. Reuters sources reported that the crew abandoned the ship and that one of the sailors is missing.

According to analysts, Iran continues to use the Strait of Hormuz and the region's sea routes as a means of pressure. At the same time, Reuters sources reported that the US has expended a significant portion of its stockpile of high-precision long-range missiles during the war. This is raising questions about Washington's long-term military capabilities.

While mediators are reporting positive progress in the negotiations, US and Iranian officials continue to make contradictory statements regarding communication between the parties.
