At least 11 people were killed in Israel's strikes on southern Lebanon.

At least 11 people were killed and 19 injured as a result of Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon. Among the dead were three children. Al Jazeera reported this.

 

It was reported that this was the bloodiest attack since the agreements that significantly reduced hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah in June. The strikes were carried out at dawn on August 15 on the areas of Ansar and Deir az-Zahrani in the Nabatieh governorate. The strike on Ansar killed seven people, including three children, and wounded two others. The strike on Deir az-Zahrani killed four people and injured 17.

 

The Israeli military stated that the strikes were carried out against Hezbollah infrastructure in the Nabatieh and Ansar areas. The Israeli side said the attack was in response to Hezbollah's action against Israeli soldiers in the Ali al-Taher ridge area. Later, the Israeli Prime Minister's office reported that three Israeli soldiers were seriously wounded as a result of that action.

 

Hezbollah announced that a "fitting response" would be given to the Israeli attacks. The group called on the Lebanese government not to rely on US-mediated negotiations, emphasizing that Washington places Israel's interests above Lebanon's sovereignty.

 

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the Israeli attacks, saying the escalation of the situation was "extremely dangerous." According to him, dealing with any military infrastructure on Lebanese territory falls solely within the authority of the Lebanese state.

 

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun also condemned the attacks, stating that they violate the agreements aimed at ensuring stability in the south.

 

The June agreement between Israel and Lebanon provides for the disarmament of Hezbollah, the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory, and the deployment of the Lebanese army in the south of the country. However, despite the agreement, Israeli attacks continue in southern Lebanon.
