Twelve people were killed and 37 injured when a bus carrying Polish tourists overturned in eastern Hungary. Al Jazeera reported this.

 

The incident occurred on August 16 on the M3 motorway near the town of Mezőkeresztes. The bus, which was traveling from Serbia to Poland, had 57 passengers and two drivers on board.

 

According to preliminary information, the bus left the road, fell into a ditch, and overturned. Police stated that the driver may have fallen asleep. The driver has been detained.

 

Eleven people died at the scene, and one more person died in the hospital. Rescuers were forced to extract some passengers trapped inside the bus through the windows.

 

This crash was the deadliest road traffic accident in Hungary since 2003. That year, a train collided with a bus carrying German tourists in the town of Siófok, killing 33 people.
