Danger in the Skies of Mecca: Pakistan's Prime Minister Reacts Sharply

Shahboz Sharif expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and announced his support for the country's efforts to ensure the safety of the holy sites.

According to the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, at around 18:50 on September 15, Saudi air defense identified an unmanned aerial vehicle south of Makkah al-Mukarramah and destroyed it before it entered the city's prohibited airspace. The Saudi side stated that the drone was launched by the Houthis.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan highly praised the prompt action of the Saudi air defense forces and emphasized that the security of Makkah al-Mukarramah and Madinah al-Munawwarah is important for the entire Muslim world.

At the same time, the Houthis denied targeting Makkah. Representatives of the group called the Saudi side's statement about this baseless and stated that there is no threat from Yemen to Makkah al-Mukarramah or other Islamic holy sites.

The Saudi side, in turn, assessed the incident as a threat to the security of Makkah al-Mukarramah and emphasized that the safety of the holy mosques and pilgrims is a "red line".
