The President signed a decree providing for lifelong imprisonment for pedophiles.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed proposals aimed at further strengthening the rights of women and children and preventing pressure and violence against them on March 3, and signed the relevant decree.

According to the decree, it is established that if individuals who have previously been convicted of committing sexual crimes against minors commit such a serious crime again, they will be sentenced to life imprisonment or long-term imprisonment.

In particular, cases of violating the honor of a person under 14 years of age or satisfying sexual needs in an unnatural way through violence against them are classified into the most severe category.

In accordance with the document, convicts who have committed crimes against minors under Articles 118 and 119 of the Criminal Code are not transferred to settlement colonies. They cannot use the opportunity for mitigation of punishment or easing of detention conditions without undergoing a psychological correction program.

Furthermore, pre-investigation checks and preliminary investigations for sexual crimes are conducted exclusively by prosecution authorities. The Administrative Liability Code also envisions strengthening penalty sanctions for lewd acts. The decree aims to further tighten the system for protecting minors from sexual exploitation.

Additionally, the investigation of sexual and violent crimes committed against minors is transferred to the exclusive jurisdiction of prosecution authorities. The activities of investigators and judges specialized and specially trained to investigate and hear cases related to pressure and violence against minors and women are being implemented.

At the same time, the confidentiality and protection of information about women who have been identified as having early marriages and pregnancies up to the age of 16 is guaranteed.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev supported the initiative to strengthen punishment for violence against women and children and introduce life imprisonment for pedophilia at the meeting on February 16.
