I'm tired of the constant rise in energy prices because of Putin or Trump — Keir Starmer

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his frustration with the situation, emphasizing that global political factors are behind the frequent fluctuations in energy prices.

In an interview with ITV News on April 9, he sharply criticized the constant changes in energy bills for households and businesses across the country.

"I am fed up with seeing the energy bills of families and businesses across the country constantly changing. This situation is linked to decisions being made by Vladimir Putin or Donald Trump in various parts of the world," said Starmer.

Shortly after the interview, an article published in The Guardian noted that the Prime Minister said the government is considering measures to curb the sharp rise in energy prices. According to him, the goal is to reduce dependence on external factors by capping electricity prices and increasing investment in the national energy system against the backdrop of the conflict in the Middle East.

For reference, energy resource prices surged sharply following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Additionally, military actions related to Iran, initiated by the US and Israel on February 28, also put pressure on the global energy market.

However, a sharp decline in commodity prices was observed after a two-week ceasefire agreement was reached between the US and Iran late on the night of April 8.
