President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with Javokhir Sindarov, the winner of the FIDE Candidates Tournament in chess.
The head of state sincerely congratulated the young grandmaster on achieving a historic result by winning this prestigious competition for the first time in Uzbekistan's chess history.
During the conversation, it was emphasized that Sindarov's achievement of 6 victories in 13 games while demonstrating a high level of play in the tournament is a rare result in the world of sports. The President noted that Sindarov displayed courage, high skill, strong will, and intellectual potential in matches against the world's leading chess players.
The President described Sindarov as a "hero," expressed confidence in his victory in the upcoming World Championship match at the end of the year, and wished him luck. The head of state also congratulated the athlete's parents, relatives, and coaches on this historic victory.
In turn, Sindarov expressed gratitude to the President for the attention and sincere wishes.
For reference, Sindarov was previously awarded the honorary title of "Honored Athlete of the Republic of Uzbekistan" for his victory in the 2025 FIDE World Cup.
Furthermore, he was presented with a three-room apartment as a gift from the President, and his coaches were incentivized with monetary awards.
As the winner of the Candidates Tournament, Sindarov earned the right to challenge the reigning world champion, Gukesh Dommaraju, for the world title. The exact date and venue of the match will be announced later by FIDE.
