At least 111 people have died and 72 have been injured as a result of a storm in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent a letter of condolence to President of the Republic of India Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the numerous casualties and serious injuries resulting from heavy rainfall and storms in Uttar Pradesh state. This was reported by the President's press secretary in a statement.
The head of state expressed deep sympathy to the families and loved ones of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
According to The Indian Express, at least 111 people have died and 72 have been injured as a result of storms accompanied by strong winds and downpours in India's Uttar Pradesh state.
Reports indicate that the natural disaster has affected 26 districts of the state. The storms resulted in the deaths of 170 head of livestock and damage to 227 homes.
The highest number of casualties was recorded in Prayagraj district, where 21 people died. In Mirzapur, 19 people died; in Bhadohi, 16; and in Fatehpur, 11.
Officials stated that most deaths and injuries were caused by falling trees, collapsing walls and roofs, as well as objects blown away by strong winds.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed all district administrations to immediately assess the damages and deliver compensation to affected families within 24 hours. Financial assistance of 400,000 rupees has been designated for the families of the deceased.
Additionally, directives have been issued to expedite the compensation process for crop losses, livestock deaths, and other damages.
The office of the Commissioner for Emergency Situations is monitoring the situation around the clock. Local administrations are required to submit situation reports every three hours. Officials indicate that the number of casualties may increase further.
In the Rampur area of Bhadohi district, the storm damaged a pontoon bridge over the Ganges River. As a result, several people fell into the river, but all were rescued.
In the Gaura Pramanpur area of Mirzapur, a pontoon bridge was also damaged, cutting off communication with 20 villages.
In Fatehpur district, 11 people died and 16 were injured. In the Pratapgarh area, four people died due to collapsing walls and concrete roofs, as well as lightning strikes.
In Kanpur Dehat district, a 19-year-old girl died after being struck by lightning while standing under a tree during heavy rain.
According to Indian Meteorological Service expert Atul Kumar Singh, such storms are seasonal, but the wind strength this time was unusually high.
Meteorologists reported that wind speeds exceeded 100 kilometers per hour in some areas, while strong winds of 60–70 kilometers per hour were observed in many places.
