The US Secret Service shot and killed a person who opened fire near the White House. One random passerby was also injured as a result of the incident. The US Secret Service reported this, as reported by BBC.

 

According to reports, an unknown person pulled a gun from their bag at night and began firing near the White House. Secret Service agents then returned fire at them.

 

US media outlets, citing sources, report that the attacker was 21-year-old Nasir Best. He had previously clashed with the Secret Service and was registered as mentally ill.

 

The incident occurred one month after the shooting that took place on April 24 during the White House Correspondents' Association dinner. US President Donald Trump also attended that event.

 

On his Truth Social page, Trump praised the Secret Service's actions and called the attacker "a person with a criminal past."

 

He also emphasized the need to create safer zones for presidents in the future.

 

CNN reporters reported hearing dozens of gunshots near the White House. ABC News reporter Selina Wang posted a video on social media platform X taken during the incident. In it, sounds resembling gunshots can be heard near the White House.
