In Navoi, the bus driver who caused the deaths of 3 people was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
In court, the driver stated that the accident occurred because he was distracted while drinking water.

The Tomdi District Criminal Court in the Navoi region has issued a verdict against a bus driver regarding a traffic accident that caused the deaths of three people. Kun.uz reported this.
According to the verdict, the incident occurred on the morning of January 5, 2026, on the A-379 "Navoi–Uchquduq" highway, between the 167th and 168th kilometers. A bus on the "Zarafshon–Navoi" route, driven by X.Sh., born in 1986, veered off the road and overturned due to the driver's negligence.
As a result, three passengers, including one minor, died at the scene. Another 21 passengers sustained injuries of varying degrees.
In court, the driver pleaded guilty, stating that he was distracted while drinking water while driving. According to his testimony, while looking for the cap of a water container, he inadvertently turned the steering wheel, causing the bus to leave the road and overturn.
The Tomdi District Court found X.Sh. guilty of committing the crime stipulated in Article 266, Part 3, Clause "a" of the Criminal Code (violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation rules resulting in the death of individuals).
He was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, with a 3-year deprivation of the right to operate all types of vehicles.
Additionally, the court's decision stipulated that material damages in the amount of 147 million soums be recovered in favor of the LLC to which the bus belonged.
