The English defeated DR Congo and advanced to the round of 16.

In the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup, the England national team faced the Democratic Republic of Congo and secured a hard-fought 2:1 victory.
The match unexpectedly began with the Africans taking the lead. In the 7th minute, Brayan Sipenga left the English goalkeeper stranded, putting the DR Congo ahead on the scoreboard.
Although England mounted numerous attacks in the first half, they were unable to change the score before halftime. In the second half, the changes made by Thomas Tuchel increased the pace of the game.
