The "Blue Domes" cafe in Tashkent will be restored to its original appearance.
The First Deputy of the Cultural Heritage Agency, together with the author of the "Blue Domes" cafe — renowned architect Vil Muratov, inspected the cultural heritage site.
The "Blue Domes" (Golubiye kupola) café in Tashkent has been fully restored based on scientific research and international restoration principles, with its original architectural appearance being revived.
According to the Cultural Heritage Agency, the agency's first deputy director, Elmurod Najimov, together with the renowned architect and author of this facility, Vil Muratov, inspected the "Blue Domes."
Built between 1968 and 1970, the "Blue Domes" is one of the unique examples of modernist architecture in Tashkent and was included in the National List of Immovable Material Cultural Heritage Objects by a decision of the Cabinet of Ministers in 2019.
It is noted that during the repair work carried out in recent years, the mosaic decorations of the facility were altered, which negatively impacted its original architectural and artistic appearance. Therefore, with the participation of Vil Muratov, scientific study and restoration work on the structure's original appearance has begun.
A special working group consisting of international and local experts will be formed to implement the project. It will include experts in modernist architecture, architects, art historians, and restoration specialists, such as Yekaterina Golovatyuk, Boris Chukhovich, and Fotima Abdurakhmanova. The experts will develop solutions to preserve the historical, architectural, and artistic value of the facility and to scientifically restore its original elements.
The Cultural Heritage Agency emphasized that this project is not only about restoring a single historical building but also represents an important step towards preserving, studying, and promoting Uzbekistan's 20th-century architectural heritage on an international scale.
