4 young men from Surkhandarya who planned a terrorist attack in Russia and intended to go to Syria have been arrested.

Individuals who promoted the ideas of terrorist organizations in Sariosiyo district, formed a secret group, and planned subversive and other criminal activities have been sentenced. The State Security Service reported this.

It was reported that a citizen of Sariosiyo district, born in 2003, went to Makhachkala, Russia, in 2023 for work purposes. There, together with a fellow villager nicknamed "Muhammad," he watched videos promoting extremist ideas on social networks and formed a secret group.

Later, they recruited another young man born in 2005 into the group. The group members planned to go to Syria. To this end, one of them illegally took out his family members' funds.

They intended to travel to Turkey via the Moscow—Istanbul route, and from there to Syria. However, upon reaching Moscow, a disagreement arose among the group members, and two of them returned to Uzbekistan.

"Muhammad," however, was held accountable under Russian law for committing murder in the city of Kazan.

The group member born in 2005 was deported to Uzbekistan. He was sentenced by court to 7 years of imprisonment. Nevertheless, the remaining group members continued their activities. Two more citizens of Sariosiyo district, born in 1999 and 2001, joined the group.

They promoted the ideas of terrorist organizations and planned to carry out criminal acts against law enforcement officers in Makhachkala, Russia.

Additionally, the group members recruited another citizen born in 2004, residing in Sariosiyo district, into their ranks. During the investigation, the crimes of the group members were confirmed by evidence.

According to the verdict of the Sariosiyo district court on criminal cases, four individuals were found guilty of committing crimes stipulated by the relevant articles of the Criminal Code.

By the court verdict, each of them was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months of imprisonment.
