Did Judge Aziza Mirzayeva have an accident while heading to the session?

On August 15, the chairwoman of the Tomdi District Court for Criminal Cases, Aziza Mirzayeva, died in a traffic accident. Human rights activist Abdurakhman Tashanov wrote that Judge was involved in the accident while on her way to a meeting.

According to him, despite August 15 being a day off, the leadership of the Supreme Court held a meeting for the judicial system and instructed the heads of city and district courts to participate in it via videoconference from their offices.

The Supreme Court issued an official response to these reports.

It was stated that the information circulated on social networks and in some media outlets, claiming that Aziza Mirzayeva was heading to Tomdi district on a day off to participate in a meeting scheduled by the Supreme Court leadership, does not correspond to the truth.

According to the official response, no meeting was scheduled or held by the Supreme Court on August 15, 2026. Furthermore, no instruction was given requiring the heads of city and district courts to report to their places of work on a day off.

The Supreme Court expressed its deep condolences to Aziza Mirzayeva's family members, children, loved ones, and colleagues over her untimely death, and stated that a legal assessment of the causes and other circumstances of the incident would be provided by the competent authorities in accordance with the procedure established by law.

It was also emphasized that, until the investigation is completed, it is inappropriate to disseminate assumptions about where the deceased was heading, for what purpose, or the causes of the incident as confirmed facts.

The Supreme Court called on the media, bloggers, and social network users to treat the memory of the deceased and the grief of her loved ones with respect and to refrain from spreading unverified information and unfounded assumptions.
