New proposals have been developed to improve the legislation regulating the alcohol and tobacco market in Uzbekistan. 

 

At the initiative of the Inspection for Regulation of the Alcohol and Tobacco Market, drafts have been prepared and submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers for introducing 28 amendments and additions to 8 regulatory legal documents.

 

Additionally, 5 new standards have been developed to organize production processes in the sector based on international requirements. Memorandums of cooperation have been signed with Tashkent State University of Economics and the Tashkent Institute of Chemical Technology to identify the scale of the shadow economy and expand scientific approaches.

 

During the first six months of this year, 71 applications for licensing were reviewed. As a result, licenses were issued to 2 alcohol producers and 15 wholesale enterprises, and permits were granted to 8 warehouses. As a result of monitoring of license fees, the collection of 6.1 billion soums was ensured.

 

During this period, 318 technological instructions were reviewed, of which 241 were approved, while 77 were rejected due to identified deficiencies. Electronic meters on 275 production lines were sealed.

 

Of the 37 applications received for the purchase of ethyl alcohol through exchange trading, 30 were granted permission.

 

Currently, 12,856 entities operate in the alcohol and tobacco sector in the country. Of these, 12,288 are retail enterprises, 496 are wholesale trading enterprises, and the rest are engaged in production.
