Two teenagers influenced by "Squid Game" killed a 12-year-old boy.
A list containing the names of 50 people was found next to the teenage girls arrested on suspicion of murder.
A 12-year-old schoolboy was killed in Russia's Moscow Oblast. Two teenage girls, aged 15 and 16, are suspected of the murder and have been detained. According to Meduza, the girls may have committed the crime under the influence of the South Korean series "Squid Game."
The 12-year-old boy went missing on August 26 in the village of Kabanovo. Volunteers were also involved in the search for him. The next day, his body was found in the basement of an abandoned building with multiple stab wounds. That building had previously served as a dormitory for a local vocational school.
Shortly thereafter, two girls aged 15 and 16 were detained on suspicion of committing the crime. Investigators have opened a criminal case into the murder.
Media outlets and Telegram channels, citing sources in law enforcement agencies, report that the girls had premeditated the murder. They had prepared knives and gloves in advance. The girls knew the boy as a neighbor living in the same village.
On the day he went missing, they invited him for a walk under the pretext of drinking beer and took him to the abandoned building. According to a police source cited by "Komsomolskaya Pravda," the girls wanted to see how people die.
Some sources claim the girls filmed the murder on a phone and that it was part of some kind of video challenge. According to other sources, they deliberately did not take their phones with them to hide their tracks. After the crime, the girls returned home.
The victim's mother, Irina, said in an interview with "MSK1" that the girls had planned other murders as well. According to her, one of the versions being considered by investigators is that the girls were influenced by the South Korean series "Squid Game."
In "Squid Game," characters compete in brutal games to survive. Irina said investigators arrived at this hypothesis because one of the girls had posters related to the series in her room.
It was also reported that a video depicting killings from the series was found on one of the suspects' TikTok page.
One resident of Kabanovo described the two girls as "calm and not quarrelsome." According to her, the girls were close to each other and often spent time together.
According to a local woman, a list containing the names of 50 people was found near the girls. The deceased boy was also on that list. She said the girls had no connection to any subculture, including Satanism, but were very obsessed with "Squid Game."
The REN publication, citing sources close to law enforcement, wrote that one of the suspects admitted during interrogation that she had long wanted to know what blood was like and what it would be like to kill a person.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
