Reports circulated on social media that a shark was being kept in the basement of one of the multi-story buildings in the Fergana region. The situation was investigated on site by the Fergana Regional Department of Ecology and Climate Change following a visit.
As a result of the investigation, it was found that citizen T.M., a resident of the "Muruvvat" neighborhood in Fergana city, was keeping not a shark, but a Siamese shark catfish.
According to the citizen, incorrect information was spread online about a shark being kept in the basement of a multi-story building. He apologized for this and stated that the fish are currently not in the basement but have been placed in the yard of his house.
For reference, the Siamese shark catfish is considered an aquarium fish. Due to its shark-like appearance, it is also known as the "shark catfish" or "shark-like catfish," as well as by the name Pangasius.
