President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the participants of the 46th World Chess Olympiad
The President noted the achievements of Uzbek chess players in the international arena and the efforts to develop chess in the country.
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the participants of the 46th World Chess Olympiad, being held for the first time in Samarkand, on the opening of the competition.
In his congratulatory message, the Head of State noted that in Uzbekistan the number of people playing chess on a mass scale exceeds 2 million, while the number of professionally rated chess players is more than 6 thousand.
Today, Uzbekistan has 32 chess players holding the international grandmaster title. Five of the country's leading chess players are ranked among the top hundred in the world rating.
Uzbekistan's men's national team is ranked 8th among 204 countries in the FIDE rating, while the women's team is ranked 20th.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that Uzbekistan's national team won the 44th World Chess Olympiad in 2022 and placed among the medalists at the 2024 Olympiad.
The congratulatory message also noted Javokhir Sindorov's victory in the Candidates Tournament for the world championship and his winning of the World Cup, as well as Nodirbek Abdusattorov's silver medal at the World Blitz Championship.
The President stated that in Uzbekistan, attention is being focused on developing chess based on the principle of "from mass participation to professionalism," starting from mahallas to educational institutions.
The 46th World Chess Olympiad is being held for the first time in Uzbekistan, in the city of Samarkand. It is attended by grandmasters, coaches, and chess enthusiasts from more than 200 countries around the world.
Additionally, the 3rd Para Chess Olympiad and the 97th FIDE Congress are also being held in Samarkand.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev wished all participants good health, and success and good fortune to the teams, as well as success in the work of the FIDE Congress.
