Global Innovation Index: Uzbekistan ranked 77th among 139 countries
The country rose two places compared to last year's result.
Uzbekistan ranked 77th among 139 countries in the 2026 Global Innovation Index (GII) rating. This is two positions higher than last year's result.
The Global Innovation Index is prepared by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the Portulans Institute, corporate and academic networks, and the GII Advisory Council. The rating assesses the level of research and innovation development of countries based on nearly 80 indicators.
According to the report, Uzbekistan ranked 8th among 36 lower- and middle-income countries, and 4th among 11 countries in Central and South Asia.
Uzbekistan ranked 68th in the "innovation input" sub-index, which represents investment and resources directed toward innovation. In the "innovation output" sub-index, which shows the effectiveness of innovations, the country rose to 78th place. A 14-position increase was recorded in this indicator over the course of a year.
Uzbekistan showed high results in certain indicators. Specifically, it ranked 2nd in "Science and engineering graduates," 3rd in "Entrepreneurship policies and culture," 4th in "Startup and scaleup financing," and 7th in "Labor productivity growth."
Uzbekistan first participated in the Global Innovation Index in 2015. That year, the country ranked 122nd among 141 countries. In 2025, it ranked 79th among 139 countries.
The 2026 result is one of the targets set within the framework of Uzbekistan's goal to join the world's top 60 innovative countries in the GII rating by 2030. For 2026, 77th place was set as the target indicator.
