Tashkent is hosting the International School of Metrology
The BIPM–COOMET UTC SUMMER SCHOOL international summer school has started its work.
On September 28, 2026, the BIPM–COOMET UTC Summer School international summer school commenced its work in Tashkent, hosted by the Uzbek National Metrology Institute (UzNMI). This international event is being organized in cooperation with the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM), COOMET TC 4 “Information and Training”, and the Uzbek National Metrology Institute, and is sponsored by IEEE UFFC.
A total of 31 participants from 25 foreign countries are taking part in this international summer school, which is being held in Uzbekistan for the first time. Of these, 11 are serving as lecturers in the capacity of leading international experts from developed countries, while 20 are participating as summer school attendees with the aim of enhancing their knowledge and practical skills in the field of time and frequency metrology.
The main objective of the event is to develop modern knowledge and practical skills in the generation, comparison, and dissemination of UTC and UTC(k) time scales, the performance of high-precision time and frequency measurements, and the assurance of their metrological traceability.
The summer school program includes lectures and practical sessions on UTC and UTC(k) time scales, atomic clocks, time and frequency transfer via GNSS, metrological traceability, evaluation of measurement uncertainty, statistical analysis, and modern time-frequency technologies.
“BIPM–COOMET UTC Summer School” will continue on September 28–30. This international event will serve to develop international scientific and technical cooperation in the field of time and frequency metrology, disseminate best practices, and enhance the professional capacity of specialists from national metrology institutes.
