Anatoly Kashpirovsky, who became famous for television "healing sessions" during the former Soviet era, has died at the age of 87. He passed away in Moscow on October 3.
The news of Kashpirovsky's death was announced by Russian TV presenter Andrey Malakhov. Later, this information was also confirmed by his close representative Sergey Rudikh. According to him, Kashpirovsky's blood pressure dropped sharply and an ambulance was called. He was taken to the hospital, but his heart stopped. What caused the cardiac arrest is still being determined.
Anatoly Kashpirovsky was born on August 11, 1939, in the village of Stavnytsia in Ukraine. He graduated from the Vinnytsia Medical Institute and worked in a psychiatric hospital for nearly 25 years.
He gained great fame in the late 1980s. In 1989, Kashpirovsky's "health improvement sessions" began airing on Central Television. During the programs, he influenced viewers through hypnosis and various psychotherapeutic methods. His shows gathered millions of people in front of their televisions across the entire former Soviet Union.
During his television career, Kashpirovsky claimed that various diseases could be treated remotely. He was known for "charging" water, giving viewers various "installations," and conducting hypnosis sessions. Later, his methods were sharply criticized in scientific and medical circles. In 2024, the Russian Academy of Sciences assessed Kashpirovsky's methods as pseudoscientific.
Kashpirovsky later also engaged in politics. In 1993, he was elected as a deputy of the Russian State Duma. In 1995, he participated in negotiations with terrorists during the hostage situation in Budyonnovsk.
Even in recent years, he did not completely stop his activities. Starting in 2020, he conducted online "health improvement sessions" via YouTube.
