Uzbekistan finished the Asian Games in 5th place: athletes won 70 medals

The XX Asian Games, held in the Japanese cities of Aichi and Nagoya from September 19 to October 4, have concluded. The delegation of Uzbekistan took 5th place in the overall team standings.

 

Uzbek athletes won 21 gold, 25 silver, and 24 bronze medals — a total of 70 medals at the competition.

 

In the overall team standings, China took first place with 341 medals. Japan was second with 269 medals, and South Korea was third with 150 medals. India, thanks to the medals it won on the final day of the competition, overtook Uzbekistan to take 4th place.

 

Uzbek weightlifter Akbar Jo'rayev also won a gold medal at the competition. He set a world record in the snatch with a result of 197 kg. The athlete also set Asian Games records in the clean and jerk with 226 kg and in the total with 423 kg.

 

For comparison, at the XIX Asian Games held in 2023 in the Chinese city of Hangzhou, Uzbekistan also took 5th place in the overall team standings. At that time, the delegation won 22 gold, 18 silver, and 31 bronze medals, a total of 71 medals.
