The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated the need to urgently return the situation around Iran to a political and diplomatic track. The relevant statement was published on the ministry's official website.

The statement noted that Moscow remains ready to assist in the search for peaceful solutions based on international law, mutual respect, and a balance of interests. The Russian side emphasized that attempts to resolve the conflict through the use of force pose a serious threat to regional and global security.

The Russian MFA, noting the air strikes carried out by the US and Israel on Iranian territory on February 28, assessed these actions as a pre-planned armed aggression against a sovereign and independent state. According to the ministry, such actions contradict the fundamental principles and norms of international law.

Moscow also accused Washington and Tel Aviv of a dangerous adventure that is bringing the region to the brink of a humanitarian, economic, and possibly radiological catastrophe. The statement particularly noted that the attacks were carried out against the backdrop of a renewed negotiation process and despite signals and guarantees of disinterest in military confrontation.

The Russian side expressed concern about the potential damage to the principles of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. It was emphasized that striking nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards is an unacceptable practice.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the international community, including the leadership of the UN and the IAEA, to give an impartial and uncompromising assessment of the situation in the Middle East and to take measures aimed at ensuring peace and stability.
