According to a report by The New York Times, the attack on an elementary school in Minab, southern Iran, on February 28th became the incident with the highest known civilian casualties since the United States and Israel began striking Iran, and no party has yet claimed responsibility.

However, evidence gathered by the publication — including newly released satellite imagery, social media posts, and verified videos — indicates that the school building was seriously damaged as a result of a precise strike that coincided with attacks on a neighboring naval base operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

"When asked whether the United States had conducted an airstrike on the school, the White House press secretary replied: 'We don't know. The Defense Department is investigating the matter,'" the report states.

According to Reuters sources, military investigators have not yet determined exactly what weapon was used, who exactly could have carried out the strike, or why this particular target was chosen.

At the same time, they do not rule out that new information could absolve the U.S. of responsibility and point to another party.
