The mother of the student who killed 9 people at a school in Turkey has also been arrested.

The mother of 14-year-old İsa Aras Mersinli, who carried out an armed attack on a school in Turkey's Kahramanmaraş province, has been arrested. The Kahramanmaraş Republic Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced this, as reported by the "Oksijen" publication.

According to investigation information, one teacher and eight students were killed as a result of the attack carried out on April 15 at Ayser Çalık Secondary School. The suspect carried out the attack with 5 hunting rifles and 7 rounds of ammunition belonging to his father. Mersinli himself died from stab wounds.

Within the framework of this criminal case, the suspect's father, police chief inspector Uyğur Mersinli, was arrested on April 16. His mother, Peyman Pınar Mersinli, was initially released but later a re-arrest warrant was issued against her.

It was reported that she was arrested while returning from visiting her husband, who is being held in custody in Elazığ city. According to the court decision, she was arrested on charges of "causing death by negligence."

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office statement noted that during the investigation, all medical information regarding the attacking child's health was examined. According to it, psychologists from two different institutions had emphasized before the incident that the adolescent needed to undergo a child psychiatry examination and receive treatment.

Despite this, the mother did not take these recommendations into account and did not take her child to a psychiatric institution. The investigative authorities assess this situation as negligence in not taking the necessary measures regarding the child's mental state, which led to severe consequences.

Currently, investigative actions in this case are ongoing.

We recall that on April 14, an armed attack occurred at a lyceum located in the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa province. As a result, 16 people were injured, and the student who carried out the attack committed suicide.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that new measures will be introduced in the country to tighten the procedure for owning hunting rifles and strengthen relevant legal norms.
