"People have been wandering for weeks": Senator addresses the issue with ATMs

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defense and Security Issues, Qutbiddin Burkhonov, stated that technical problems related to ATMs are causing serious discontent among citizens.

According to the senator, in some ATMs, funds are deducted from a customer's account, but cash is not dispensed, or the card gets stuck in the machine. However, rapid mechanisms to resolve these issues have not been implemented in practice. It was noted that numerous complaints regarding this matter are being received not only by banks but also by internal affairs departments.

"Worst of all, thousands of people are wandering around for weeks due to technical glitches in withdrawing money from ATMs," the senator said.

Short-term studies conducted in Andijan based on voter appeals have also confirmed the existence of these problems. Further analysis showed that the scale of the issue is much broader.

According to data, in 2025, various malfunctions were recorded in 290,000 cases during the process of withdrawing money from ATMs across the country.

Although citizens requested urgent assistance for over a thousand of these cases, the necessary service mechanisms to resolve them have not yet been fully established.

Additionally, the review periods for appeals varied: out of 290,000 appeals, 97,000 were resolved within 2–3 business days, 22,000 within 4–6 business days, and 9,700 within 7–15 business days. In nearly 10,000 cases, the appeals were reviewed for more than 15 days.
