The Russian army begins systematic strikes on Kyiv — Lavrov
Lavrov and Rubio discussed the Ukraine conflict and diplomatic relations.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephone conversation. The parties discussed the Ukraine conflict, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, and issues related to the activities of Russian and US diplomatic missions. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that during the conversation, Sergey Lavrov informed the US side that, on the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, in response to the ongoing attacks by the Kyiv regime against peaceful civilians and civilian objects on Russian territory, the Russian Armed Forces are beginning to launch systematic strikes on objects used for the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Kyiv and on decision-making centers.
Lavrov also recalled the statement issued by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 25, which recommended that the US and other states with embassies in Kyiv evacuate their diplomatic personnel and citizens from the Ukrainian capital.
Furthermore, the Russian side recalled the agreements reached on the Ukraine conflict in Anchorage in August 2025 at the initiative of the US, noting that the actions of European elites and Kyiv are undermining these agreements.
During the conversation, the parties also exchanged views on diplomatic initiatives aimed at resolving the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz and the situation around Cuba.
It was reported that Sergey Lavrov and Marco Rubio confirmed their readiness to intensify efforts to normalize conditions for the activities of Russian and US diplomatic missions, despite existing disagreements.
