At least 37 people were killed as a result of Russia's strike on an ammunition depot in the Bucha district of Kyiv region and the subsequent explosions. Another 42 people were injured, four of them children. This was reported by the BBC, citing the head of the Kyiv regional state administration, Timur Tkachenko, in a report.

 

34 of the deceased were at a nursing home for the elderly. Among the victims was also Taras Didych, the head of the Dmytrivka community.

 

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the incident "terrible negligence" related to the storage of explosives near people. According to him, during the Russian attack, a strike was carried out on the area where ammunition was stored, which was followed by the detonation of shells, mines, other ammunition, and drones.

 

Ukrainian officials reported that on the night of August 29, a strong fire and explosions occurred following the attack at one of the enterprises located in the village of Myla in the Bucha district. Nearly 400 people were evacuated from the emergency zone. Due to the explosions, traffic was completely halted on the section of the Zhytomyr highway between the 15th and 32nd kilometers.

 

The Russian Ministry of Defense, in turn, stated that the ammunition depot of the company Fire Point in the village of Myla was struck. According to the ministry, components and launch boosters for FP-1 and FP-2 long-range drones were stored there.

 

As a result of the explosions, the surrounding infrastructure was damaged, including residential buildings and the nursing home. About 50 residential buildings were damaged to varying degrees.

 

In connection with the incident, the National Police of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine are conducting a pre-trial investigation. A criminal case has been opened against officials who allowed ammunition to be stored near a populated area under the article on negligent attitude to official duties.

 

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that those responsible for the decisions that led to the deaths of people "must be held accountable."

 

According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the night of August 29, Russia launched an "Onyx" anti-ship missile, an "Iskander-M" ballistic missile, and 267 attack drones at Ukrainian territory. As of 11:30 a.m. on August 29, the attack of "Shahed" drones on the Kyiv region continued.
