A strike was carried out on an oil refinery in Moscow: there are casualties
The mayor of Moscow said the attacks were aimed at disrupting the parliamentary elections.
Two people died as a result of Ukraine's large-scale drone attacks on the Moscow region. An oil refinery in Moscow also became a target of the drones. Reuters reported this, citing Russian officials.
According to Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, more than 1,600 drones have been shot down over Russian territory since Saturday. Of these, 450 were heading toward Moscow.
According to him, several drones reached the territory of the oil refinery, and one of them struck a residential building. No casualties are reported in Moscow.
Reuters correspondents heard explosions in Moscow and saw smoke rising from the area of the oil refinery. The extent of damage to the refinery is not yet known.
In the Ramenskoye district of the Moscow region, 400 people, including 70 children, were evacuated from a 21-story residential building. A number of houses were damaged.
Ukraine has not yet commented on the attacks. Russia and Ukraine have consistently stated that they do not target civilians.
The attacks occurred on the final day of parliamentary elections in Russia. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said the attack was planned to disrupt the elections. However, this statement has not been confirmed by the Ukrainian side.
According to data, the Moscow oil refinery processed 11.6 million tons of oil in 2024. It produced 2.9 million tons of gasoline and 3.2 million tons of diesel fuel.
