A senator's inquiry was sent to the Tashkent city mayor regarding the issue of protecting homeless animals.
He was asked to provide substantiated information regarding the insufficient infrastructure of nurseries in the capital, the allocated funds, the cooperation of responsible agencies, and the ongoing work and future plans for supporting the initiatives of NGOs.

A senatorial inquiry was sent to the Mayor of Tashkent city by Anvar Toichiev, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agrarian, Water Management and Ecology, regarding the issues of protecting, sheltering, and caring for homeless animals in Tashkent city.
It is noted that in recent years, the issue of protecting, sheltering, and caring for homeless animals in the capital has been gaining critical importance. Civil society institutions, volunteers, and animal rights activists have been establishing shelters based on their own funds and initiatives, and carrying out work on caring for, vaccinating, and treating animals.
At the same time, conducted analyses show that the existing infrastructure for sheltering and caring for homeless animals in Tashkent city is insufficient. In particular, it has been emphasized that the number and capacity of existing shelters are not fully meeting the demand, and in some cases, shortcomings are observed in the organization of the processes of catching, sheltering, and disposing of deceased animals by the city and district landscaping departments.
Furthermore, it is separately noted that cases of cruel treatment of animals by some citizens are causing justified public protests.
Taking these circumstances into account, the senatorial inquiry requests substantiated information regarding the problems related to establishing shelters intended for homeless animals in Tashkent city, the number and capacity of existing shelters, funds allocated to this sector, the level of cooperation between responsible agencies, as well as the work being carried out and future plans regarding supporting the initiatives of non-governmental non-profit organizations and activists.
