A small plane carrying a Pickleball team to a competition crashed in the US state of Texas. As a result, all five people on board were killed. Fox News reported this.
According to local authorities and police, the incident occurred in the city of Wimberley, located approximately 40 miles (64 km) southwest of Austin.
Police Sergeant Billy Ray stated that the pilot and four passengers on the plane were confirmed dead at the scene. The identities of the deceased have not been disclosed yet.
Officials said that the investigation into the incident is being conducted by US federal aviation authorities.
It was reported that the plane was carrying members of the Amarillo Pickleball Club from the city of Amarillo, Texas, to a tournament. Club President Den Dayer said he had played many times before with four of the deceased, describing them as experienced and competitive athletes striving for victory.
At the same time, there was a second plane that had also departed from Amarillo heading to the tournament. According to officials, it landed successfully at New Braunfels Airport. According to air traffic controller records, the troubled plane made erratic movements before disappearing from radar.
It was noted that the plane's emergency locator transmitter activated at the crash site. Following this, controllers called 911 services.
According to the National Weather Service, the sky in the area was partly cloudy before the incident, with thunderstorms observed later.
The cities of Wimberley and New Braunfels are located in the Hill Country region of Texas, which is famous for tourism.
