Discounts on electricity may be introduced in areas where gas has not yet reached.

According to the Minister of Energy, a new tariff system is being developed taking into account the characteristics of the regions and the level of energy resource supply.

Discounts on electricity may be introduced in areas where gas has not yet reached.

It is planned to differentiate electricity tariffs for residents living in areas of Uzbekistan where natural gas supply is not available. The Minister of Energy, Sherzod Khodjayev, announced this in an interview with the “Uzbekistan 24” television channel.

According to the Minister, natural gas is currently not supplied to nearly 2,000 neighborhoods in the country. It was noted that residents in these areas therefore heat their homes using electricity, yet they are paying according to the current tariffs.

According to Sherzod Khodjayev, based on the President’s instruction, it is planned to revise the tariff policy for electricity, taking into account the specific characteristics of the regions. The new system will consider multi-story and individual houses, as well as the level of gas and other energy resource supply to residential areas.

“A consumer who uses electricity for heating because natural gas does not reach them has the right to receive a discount,” the Minister said.

For reference, the initiative to provide concessions on electricity tariffs for houses without gas supply had been proposed earlier. Former Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, announced in the fall of 2024 that a draft resolution on this matter was being developed and was planned to be implemented from 2025.
