Despite tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian delegation will participate in the second round of negotiations with the United States in Islamabad. This is reported by the Anadolu Agency, citing Pakistani officials here.
According to Pakistani officials, Iran plans to participate in the negotiations scheduled to take place in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, on April 21.
According to the source, the Iranian delegation, headed by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, will arrive in Islamabad tomorrow.
The US delegation is expected to be led by the country's Vice President J.D. Vance. It may also include US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and Trump's special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.
Earlier, the Pakistani side reported that two planes carrying the US "advanced negotiation group" had landed in Islamabad. Washington has not yet commented on this information.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that war does not serve the interests of any party. He called for the use of "all reasonable and diplomatic means" to de-escalate the situation.
According to Iranian media, the Tehran delegation intends not to start negotiations until the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz imposed by the US naval forces is lifted.
