Iran is ready to hold negotiations with the US — WSJ

Iran has come forward with a new initiative to resolve the conflict with the United States through diplomatic means. Tehran has stated through intermediaries that it is ready to participate in negotiations in Pakistan early next week if Washington agrees to discuss its latest proposal. This was reported by Apa.az, citing The Wall Street Journal.

According to the publication, in its previous proposal, Iran indicated its readiness to discuss the terms for reopening the Strait of Hormuz if the US halts attacks and lifts the blockade on Iranian ports. Additionally, Tehran has proposed negotiating issues related to its nuclear program in exchange for easing US sanctions.

Meanwhile, The Guardian reports that Iran conveyed a new proposal to Washington through Pakistan late Thursday, though its content has not yet been disclosed. US President Donald Trump expressed that he was "not satisfied" with this proposal, emphasizing that the negotiations are not yielding the expected results.

"Negotiations are ongoing now, but they are not producing results. The choice is either to eliminate them entirely or to reach an agreement," he told journalists.

According to him, the Iranian side is putting forward "unacceptable demands."

In Washington, Trump rejected the deadline set by the War Powers Act, claiming that the truce reached with Iran has effectively "paused" the 60-day countdown. This interpretation is considered controversial by many legal experts.

In recent days, Pakistan's role has shifted from direct negotiations to mediation—facilitating the exchange of messages between the two sides. While Islamabad officials indicate that the possibility of reaching an agreement remains, sharp differences in the positions of the parties are complicating the process.

Pakistani officials note that the war is having a serious impact not only on regional security but also on the global economy and the lives of millions of people. In particular, the country's energy import costs have risen sharply.

According to diplomatic sources, the main points of contention are related to Iran's nuclear program. The US is demanding a firm commitment from Tehran not to develop nuclear weapons, while Iran is ready to discuss restrictions in exchange for easing sanctions.

The fate of the negotiations largely depends on whether the parties can reach a compromise on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the nuclear issue. For now, both sides are maintaining their firm positions.
