Uzbekistan has become a leading country in the world in terms of the increase in the number of schools where the Korean language is taught. Yonhap reported on this.
According to the report, over the past year, 68 more educational institutions with classes specializing in the Korean language have been established in the country.
In this indicator, Uzbekistan has surpassed Vietnam, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Brazil, and the USA.
Experts explain the growing interest in the Korean language by the widespread popularization of South Korean culture among young people.
In particular, K-pop, dramas, and internet platforms are having a significant impact on this process. Additionally, the desire to study in South Korea is also steadily increasing.
It is noted that the support of educational programs by South Korean organizations has also been one of the important factors. Within the framework of the projects, classrooms are being equipped, special educational literature is being delivered, and teacher qualifications are being improved.
According to the results of 2025, the Korean language was taught in nearly 2,700 schools worldwide. Over the past four years, the number of such educational institutions has increased by 54 percent. Currently, the number of students learning the Korean language outside of South Korea has reached 236,000.
Today, South Korean universities are considered one of the popular destinations among young people from Uzbekistan. Joint educational programs and branches of Korean higher education institutions are operating in the republic.
Various cultural festivals, language olympiads, and academic exchange programs are also contributing to the increase in the number of people learning the Korean language.
