Five new mudflow reservoirs will be built in Uzbekistan by 2030.
The project serves to effectively utilize flood and stormwater, improve the water supply of irrigated lands, and develop new land areas.

In Uzbekistan, five new mudflow reservoirs will be built in the Jizzakh, Samarkand, and Tashkent regions between 2027 and 2030. This was stipulated in the President's resolution "On measures to ensure the effective use of mudflow waters."
According to the resolution, the Tangatopdisoy reservoir will be built in the Bakhmal district of the Jizzakh region, the G'ijduvonsoy and Choshtepasoy reservoirs in the Urgut district of the Samarkand region, the Oqtepasoy reservoir in the Qo'shrabot district, and the Oqsoqotasoy reservoir in the Bo'stonliq district of the Tashkent region.
As a result of the commissioning of the new reservoirs, the water supply will be improved for 7,000 hectares of land in the Samarkand region, 2,000 hectares in the Tashkent region, and 300 hectares in the Jizzakh region.
Additionally, the opportunity will be created to develop 3,300 hectares of new land in the Samarkand region and 300 hectares in the Tashkent region.
Across the republic, 60 areas have been identified where there is potential to form small water reserves. The construction of mudflow reservoirs is intended to collect mudflow and flood waters that occur during the spring-summer season, increase the volume of agricultural production, and create new jobs.
The resolution also stipulates the implementation of certain projects on a public-private partnership basis. In particular, private investors will be attracted to the construction of the Tangatopdisoy mudflow reservoir in the Jizzakh region and the Oqsoqotasoy mudflow reservoir in the Tashkent region.
Furthermore, permission will be granted to establish tourist-recreational zones and fish farms in the areas of the mudflow reservoirs. The work to create the necessary external engineering and communication infrastructure for them will be financed from the state budget.
