Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Vladimir Putin will launch the construction of the nuclear power plant in Jizzakh.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Russia Vladimir Putin will participate in a ceremony marking the start of construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) in the Jizzakh region via videoconference on June 4, as part of a meeting in St. Petersburg. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov, as reported.
According to Ushakov, Shavkat Mirziyoyev will attend as one of the foreign guests of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. In this regard, a bilateral meeting between the two heads of state will also take place on the evening of June 4 at the Constantine Palace.
Ushakov stated that the negotiations will begin with a ceremony to launch the construction of the first power unit of the integrated nuclear power plant planned to be built in Uzbekistan.
It has been reported that under the project, an NPP consisting of two large-capacity power units and two small power units, each with a capacity of 55 megawatts, will be built in the Jizzakh region.
The ceremony is expected to be attended by Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi, head of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev, and Director of the Uzatom agency Azim Akhmedkhodzhaev.
During the event, reports on technical preparations for the project will be heard, after which the presidents of Russia and Uzbekistan will officially authorize the start of construction work.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will take place on June 3–6 this year.
