Tokayev answered the question about the possibility of being elected for a new presidential term.
Kazakhstan's new Constitution allowed the current president to participate in the presidential election once again.

Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has gained the right to be re-elected following the entry into force of the new Constitution. The head of state himself said it is too early to answer the question of whether he will participate in the 2029 election or whether early elections may be held, he stated.
A journalist asked Tokayev whether he would use his right to put forward his candidacy in the 2029 presidential election or whether early elections would be held.
“The Constitutional Court made such a decision. This is legal, and I have the right to be re-elected. However, regarding the upcoming elections, as you mentioned, whether I will participate in the elections in which year or not — it is still too early to talk about this,” said Tokayev.
He explained this by noting that there are still many tasks to be accomplished before the country. The President emphasized, in particular, the need to turn Kazakhstan into a large-scale construction site, primarily building social facilities for citizens.
Tokayev expressed his readiness to use National Fund funds for these purposes.
“Why should we hold money in foreign securities? It could be used for the welfare of the people. I am against just keeping this money. It should serve our people and citizens,” said the Kazakh leader.
He noted that the situation in the world remains complex and that the international environment requires constant analysis and attention from the country. Nevertheless, he said that internal peace and stability have been achieved in Kazakhstan.
Tokayev also emphasized that there is economic growth in the country. According to him, this indicator is objective and has been confirmed by major international financial institutions.
The President indicated that he could give a more specific answer regarding his participation in the presidential election next year.
For reference, the new Constitution came into force in Kazakhstan on July 1. Its draft was approved by nearly 90 percent of votes in a referendum held in March.
The new Constitution introduced a number of changes to the country's political system. In particular, a unicameral Qurultai was established instead of the bicameral parliament — the Senate and the Majilis, the position of vice president was reinstated, and the creation of a new advisory body — the People's Council — was stipulated.
The new Constitution allowed the current President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to participate in the presidential election once again. The Constitutional Court also confirmed that he has the right to be re-elected.
