The Presidents of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan held the third meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council.
A start has been given to the implementation of joint projects in a number of sectors.

At the Kuksaroy residence, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a meeting in a narrow format and held the third meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council.

During the negotiations, issues of further developing Uzbekistan–Azerbaijan strategic partnership and alliance relations were considered.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev particularly emphasized that the current state visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan is a historic event.
At the end of the summit, the signing of the Treaty on Eternal Friendship will be confirmation of this. Most importantly, every clause of our strategic partnership and alliance will be reflected in concrete results and practical actions, – said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The leaders noted that bilateral relations are developing rapidly. Regular dialogue has been established between parliaments, governments, and sectors.

As part of preparations for the visit, meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission, the Business Council, and the Regions Forum were successfully held.
Over the past five years, the volume of mutual trade has increased 3-fold. Cooperation projects are being implemented in energy, chemical, mining, textile, agriculture, urban development, and other areas.

It was noted that there are opportunities to bring the volume of trade to 1 billion dollars. The adoption of a program containing concrete measures creates a solid foundation for achieving this important milestone.
Within the framework of the meeting, implementation of new cooperation projects will be launched. The importance of actively attracting funds from the Joint Investment Company to support such initiatives was emphasized.
The need to strengthen mutual connectivity between the two countries and jointly develop the Middle Corridor was highlighted. The leaders agreed to continue active exchanges in culture, education, youth policy, and sports.
Also today, a new building of the National Pedagogical University named after Nizami Ganjavi will be opened, and work will begin on establishing the “Azerbaijan” park in New Tashkent.
In order to further bring the two peoples closer, a proposal was made to create a joint film on the theme “Literary bridge between Nizami Ganjavi and Alisher Navoi.”
In the autumn of this year, the second forum of rectors of leading higher education institutions will be held in Azerbaijan.
In 2027, a major sporting event will take place in both countries – the FIFA U-20 World Cup. In this regard, a comprehensive program “Two Countries – One Championship” will be developed, providing for joint sports, cultural, and youth events.
The heads of state also exchanged views on pressing issues on the international and regional agenda. At the meeting, reports from the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission were heard. It was decided to adopt a “roadmap” aimed at the timely and quality implementation of the agreements reached.
In conclusion, implementation of joint projects in banking and finance, construction materials, education, oil and gas, tourism, housing construction, mining, and agriculture was launched.
