Israel launched a military operation in the West Bank: two cities were placed under blockade

The Israeli army has launched a large-scale military operation in the city of Hebron and its surroundings in the West Bank of the Jordan River, expected to last several days. As part of the operation, Hebron and the neighboring town of Halhul have been blockaded.

The Israeli army and the internal security service — SHABAK announced that searches began after an attack on Israeli military personnel on October 23. As a result of the attack, two military personnel were killed and three more were wounded. Two Palestinians suspected in the attack were killed.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the military had prevented a major terrorist attack and ordered the immediate blockade of Hebron.

In a joint statement by the Israeli army and SHABAK, it was emphasized that the operation is aimed at identifying and destroying terrorist infrastructure and weapons in the area. Border police and the civil administration are also participating in the operation.

Roadblocks have been set up in Hebron and Halhul. The local population may leave the area only through three designated checkpoints after undergoing inspection. The Israeli military also plans to demolish illegal structures deemed to pose a security threat.

According to the Israeli side, the main part of the operation is being conducted in the area where the attackers moved. At the same time, military operations are also being carried out in dozens of other settlements in the West Bank.

The situation escalated just days before the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 27 in Israel.
