Spain closed its airspace to US aircraft participating in the war with Iran.

The Spanish government explains this decision with its policy of not joining the war.

Spain closed its airspace to US aircraft participating in the war with Iran.

Spain has closed its airspace to US aircraft involved in military operations against Iran. This was announced by the country's Defense Minister Margarita Robles.

Robles emphasized that this decision was made following the earlier denial of permission for the US to use joint military bases and is a further step.

"We do not permit the use of military bases or airspace for actions related to a war with Iran," Robles told journalists in Madrid.

Spain's El Pais publication was the first to report this news, citing military sources.

According to the publication, the closure of airspace forces military aircraft en route to targets in the Middle East via Spain, a NATO member, to bypass the country's territory. However, this restriction does not apply to emergency situations.

Spain's Economy Minister stated that this decision is a continuation of the government's previously adopted policy.

"This decision is part of our resolve not to participate in or contribute to a war that was started unilaterally and in violation of international law," he said.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has sharply criticized US and Israeli attacks on Iran, calling the military actions illegal.

US President Donald Trump has threatened to halt trade relations with Madrid due to Spain's refusal to allow the use of its military bases in the war.
