9 ecology officials were dismissed from their positions in Tashkent region.
The weak control over illegal sand and gravel extraction and waste dumping in protected areas along the Chirchiq River has been criticized.

In the Tashkent region, shortcomings in the field of environmental control were criticized, and disciplinary measures were applied against a number of responsible officials.
At an expanded meeting chaired by the Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, Head of the Ecopolice Aziz Abduhakimov, shortcomings in environmental protection and the organization of environmental control in the region were discussed.
At the meeting, it was noted that environmental control was carried out weakly, sufficient oversight was not established over the activities of certain economic entities, and measures were not taken against objects operating without an environmental expert conclusion and without permission in river protection zones.
It was also emphasized that control was not sufficiently ensured regarding cases of illegal extraction of sand and gravel in the Chirchik riverbed and the placement of waste in protected areas.
Following the discussions, the Deputy Head of the Tashkent Regional Ecopolice and the heads of eight district and city departments were dismissed from their positions.
At the same time, instructions were given to the Main Department of Ecology of the Tashkent Region to eliminate the identified shortcomings. The ecology departments of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions, and the city of Tashkent were also tasked with re-analyzing their activities, increasing the effectiveness of control, and raising environmental culture.
According to the Committee, environmental control has also been strengthened in other regions of the republic, and strict measures will be taken against cases of irresponsibility.
