An explosion occurred at a private school in the western part of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. Several students, including children, were injured as a result of the incident.
The explosion took place on August 17 at around 4:30 PM local time at the "Sham-e-Hedayat" private school, located in the Mahdia township of the Dasht-e-Barchi area in District 13 of Kabul.
According to KabulNow, a grenade was thrown from a narrow street in front of the school into its courtyard after students had left their classes. Several people were injured in the explosion, but their exact number has not yet been disclosed.
It is reported that most of the victims are young children, including both girls and boys. Several injured students were taken to hospitals. Their condition and the severity of their injuries remain unknown.
Videos have also circulated showing ambulances operating at the scene and transporting the injured to hospitals.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the explosion. The Taliban government has also not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
Dasht-e-Barchi, where the explosion occurred, is one of the densely populated areas of Kabul, inhabited primarily by the Shia Hazara community. This area has previously been targeted by militant groups, particularly ISIS-K, the Afghan branch of the "Islamic State."
ISIS-K has carried out a series of attacks against Hazara citizens in Afghanistan in recent years. The group has also targeted schools, hospitals, mosques, public transportation, and other civilian facilities.
