The foul odor problem in Sergeli and Yangihayot has been resolved.

The foul odor problem that has been troubling residents of Tashkent's Sergeli and Yangihayot districts for several years has been eliminated. A modern filtration system worth 9.5 billion soums was installed at the Salar wastewater treatment facility to reduce unpleasant odors.

 

The Salar facility receives and treats wastewater coming from seven districts of Tashkent. Its daily capacity is 900,000 cubic meters. To eliminate the unpleasant odor, the wastewater basins have been hermetically sealed.

 

In the system, odorous air is drawn out using a ventilator, purified through filters, and neutralized. The equipment, imported from Russia, uses 11.5 tons of catalytic sorbent and 2.5 tons of activated carbon. The air is ozonized using ultraviolet rays and subjected to an oxidation process.

 

According to Dononboy Kazibekov, chief technologist of "Tashkent City Water Supply" JSC, wastewater coming from the Sergeli, Yangihayot, Mirobod, and Yashnobod districts is treated at this facility. As a result of the system's operation, the concentration of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia in the emitted air has been reduced to zero.

 

The system has been operating for more than 15 days. It is noted that its commissioning has eliminated the unpleasant odors around the facility. This has also been confirmed by residents living in nearby areas.

 

At a meeting chaired by Shavkat Mirziyoyev on July 4, infrastructure issues in the Sergeli and Yangihayot districts were discussed. It was noted that the foul odor around the water treatment facility was one of the main problems troubling residents, and the installation of modern filtration equipment at the wastewater receiving facility was tasked to be completed by September 1.
