A fire broke out at a wedding ceremony in the DR Congo, killing 22 people.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs of Congo visited the scene of the incident.
At least 22 people have been killed in a fire that broke out during a wedding ceremony in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Several other people were injured.
The incident occurred on Friday evening in a building located in the Lingwala area in the north of the city. The fire continued until Saturday morning.
During the fire, people tried to escape from the building. However, narrow corridors were crowded with people, which prevented them from quickly leaving the building. At the scene, some survivors and victims were laid out on the roadside, while wedding guests tried to help the injured.
The mayor of Lingwala, Norbert Mushinga, said that according to preliminary information, the number of victims was 22. He said the death toll could rise further.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Congo, Jacquemain Shabani, visited the scene on Saturday morning.
Fires frequently occur in densely populated areas of Kinshasa. According to local media, such incidents increase in the city during the dry season. In some parts of the city, necessary infrastructure such as fire safety services is not adequately provided.
