«If you dig a hole for someone else, you'll fall into it yourself» — Putin on the EU's decision to abandon Russian gas
The Russian president criticized Europe's policy of abandoning Russian energy resources.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that European countries' rejection of Russian gas will lead to a sharp increase in costs for foreign consumers. According to him, attempts aimed at removing Russia from the global gas market and limiting the development of the country's gas industry will have serious consequences. Putin announced this during his speech at the forum of gas exporting countries, wrote RBC.
According to Putin, Russia is one of the main participants in the global gas market. The country ranks first in the world in natural gas reserves and second in production volume. At the same time, Russian gas companies have faced certain difficulties in recent years.
«Any attempts aimed at removing Russia from the ranks of participants in the global gas market and limiting the development of this sector in our country will lead to serious consequences. First of all, this will manifest itself in an excessive increase in costs for foreign end consumers of gas — companies, enterprises, and households,» said the Russian president.
Putin accused Europe of harming its own policy, industry, and social sphere by rejecting Russian energy resources and canceling long-term contracts.
«He who digs a pit for another will fall into it himself,» he said, commenting on the situation.
According to the Russian leader, in order to solve the tasks facing the global gas industry, it is necessary not to create new obstacles, but on the contrary, to strengthen cooperation, primarily ties between gas exporting countries.
Putin emphasized that such cooperation should be based on states' own capabilities and sovereign technologies, as well as develop on the principles of mutual interest, trust, and respect for each other's interests.
