In 2025, a record number of journalists were killed worldwide — CPJ
104 journalists have been killed in the conflict zone, 86 of them directly attributable to the Israeli Defense Forces.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) data, 129 media workers were killed worldwide in 2025. This figure is the highest in the statistics CPJ has been compiling since 1992 and marks the second consecutive year of increase.
According to the document, 104 of the 129 journalists killed died during military conflicts. The Israel Defense Forces are responsible for 86 of them. In 2024, during the escalation of the Palestine-Israel conflict, 85 Palestinian journalists were killed.
CPJ noted that journalists are increasingly being killed as a result of drone strikes — at least 39 journalists died in such incidents in 2025. In 2023, the committee recorded only two such incidents.
A total of 124 journalists were killed in 2024, and the increase in this figure in 2025 raises serious concerns about global journalist safety.
